Has anyone noticed the radiation suits they are wearing in Japan? These are Tyvek suits or coats worn to keep clothes clean from paint and dirt and the masks are dust masks. These don’t offer much radiation protection.

These are “real” radiation suits from the EPA. Some have been donated to Japan, but we haven’t really seen them in action.

“…experts say that even state-of-the-art gear provides marginal protection against high levels of radiation exposure — radioactive particles eventually can penetrate just about anything a human can wear. The danger is multiplied by high heat or anything that could stress the seams in the suits.”
